I remember when I used to drive through there years ago and thought.."Man you're in a world of hurt if you break down in Compton." Well, years later I am working for the County Assessor, and I was a trainee appraiser. As a trainee they would send us all over, I guess from upper management's viewpoint of "experiencing all parts of the L.A. area". I remember being assigned data recovery, and having to go to several properties in Compton that the records had been "lost". I thought it was kinda ironic that now I had to go there on purpose.I go to this one house in my shiny charcoal pearl 2+2 with chrome wheels, tint, spoiler(we have to drive our own vehicles). Just getting to the property, if looks could kill I wouldn't have made it a mile. Finally arrive, and it's this little piece o' crap 600 sq ft place and figure I'll just wheel the dimensions from the street...don't want to get shot going on the property. Down the street there are 4 or 5 gang bangers laughing and fooling around. Me in my tie and my measuring wheel start to measure and I hear "Get the hell outta here!". Needless to say I did not wait for clarification as to whether they were talking to me and got my white ass back in my Z pronto. Other appraisers have had "undesirables" come up to their cars and try to open them while they were in them, and another guy I know was chased by punks. NOT A FUN PLACE, AND JUST LIKE THE MOVIES. I imagine at night that place is even scarier.
